A long-established, flatter part of the metro

Casas Adobes is a census-designated place in Pima County with a 2020 Census population of 70,973, up 6.3 percent from 66,795 in 2010, spread across about 26.75 square miles at an elevation of roughly 2,411 feet. It sits south and southwest of Oro Valley and west of Catalina Foothills, generally bounded by North Oracle Road on the east, Orange Grove Road on the south, Ina Road on the north, and North La Cholla Boulevard on the west, between the Cañada del Oro wash to the north and the Rillito River to the south. The area was cattle ranching country until Tucson’s growth reached it in the 1920s, and developer Sam Nanini built the residential subdivisions of adobe-brick homes in the mid-1950s that gave the community its name. Today it is one of the larger, older, and more built-out CDPs in the northern Tucson metro, with a more urban, grid-like street pattern than the newer master-planned golf communities to its north.

No separate ordinance, same state rules

Casas Adobes has never incorporated as a city, so it falls under Pima County government and the same Arizona statutes as the rest of the county. A plain golf cart here has no general statewide right to use public streets, and Arizona’s shoulder-driving allowance for age-restricted communities under A.R.S. § 28-721(C) does not apply anywhere in Pima County, since it is limited to counties over three million people. What Casas Adobes carts need

Flatter, more consistent grades. At roughly 2,411 feet and built on a more conventional urban street grid than the foothills communities, Casas Adobes generally puts less grade stress on a cart’s brakes and controller than SaddleBrooke, Catalina Foothills, or Dove Mountain. That does not mean brakes never need attention, since age and mileage still wear shoes and cables over time, but the interval tends to run longer here; see brakes and tires.

An older housing and electrical base. With residential development dating back to the 1950s in parts of the community, cart-barn wiring and outlets can be older than in a newer build, which is part of why we test charger output and check wiring condition on any cart that “will not charge” rather than assuming it is always the battery pack; see charger repair.

Standard Tucson-area heat and monsoon cycle. Sitting slightly lower than Oro Valley, Casas Adobes runs at least as warm, and Tucson International Airport’s NOAA normals average 67.9 days a year at 100°F or above nearby.
